Redwood become involved early in the planning process with Warner Estate Holding’s £40m restoration and redevelopment plans at Market Place Shopping Centre, Bolton when one of the main challenges included addressing strongly voiced local concerns from Councillors, shoppers and retailers about the closure of the market hall to make way for the modern scheme.
Redwood’s understanding of the elements and processes involved in a project of this scale enabled us to build good working relationships with many parties. Our management and coordination skills helped us to deliver sensitive and timely PR activities to minimise the issues and maximise excitement.
By working closely with the centre management, key Council representatives and local press, Redwood was able to ensure that accurate and positive messages were being disseminated throughout the planning process and the works following the market’s closure.
Local newsletters, regular briefings with the local press and liaison with the Council’s marketing team were devised, drafted and coordinated by Redwood to help maximise all possibilities to correct misunderstandings and build excitement about the new centre as lettings come on-stream.
Various awareness raising events were put in place in the run up to the opening, from the start on site ceremony, where Redwood invited local hero Amir Khan to declare the project on stream with the Mayor and a number of local guests, to a topping out by the Mayor. A series of exciting events were also planned to celebrate the opening of the scheme including the soft launch and civil ceremony and a shoppers’ fashion event.
