With Redwood’s support longstanding client Stanhope has secured an important planning permission for its mixed-use Elwick Place scheme in Ashford.  Ashford Borough Council’s planning committee gave the unanimous consent at a December 2015 planning committee, against a background of strong local support.

The consent represented the culmination of a pre-application engagement programme led by Redwood.  A public exhibition in summer 2015 attracted over one thousand attendees and significant levels of local support, with 85 per cent of respondents backing the proposals.

One of the fastest growing towns in the UK, Ashford is expected to deliver a large number of new homes over the coming years and Elwick Place is one of eight key regeneration sites in the town that will help facilitate that growth. Comprising a new boutique multi-screen cinema, a family hotel, restaurants and cafes, an events space, car parking and homes, the proposals represent an investment of over £100 million in the local economy.

Redevelopment of the vacant site will also significantly improve Ashford’s existing leisure offer and night-time economy, with some of the UK’s top restaurant brands targeted to take space at the new development. Hundreds of new jobs will be delivered as part of the proposals. Work is anticipated to start on-site later this year.
