Last Sunday, 9 April, marked not only the hottest day of the year to date but also the twelfth annual “Hacks v Flaks” Spring Field Day.

Journalists from The Times, BBC, Sky and The Daily Telegraph gathered at the Bank of England Sports Centre in Barnes to play representatives from Ernst and Young, Grant Thornton and Redwood Consulting. The match saw journalists play PRs in a netball showdown that raised money and awareness for Wheelpower.

After battling through the scorching heat, the A and B netball teams managed to raise £13,500 for Wheelpower with the Flaks A-team finishing victorious, beating the Hacks 59-35, and the Flaks B-team also coming out on top, final score of 10-5. The day also saw the men’s football teams participate in the annual event.

Dedicated to transforming the lives of disabled people, Wheelpower provides multiple opportunities for wheelchair users to play sport. It believes sport is a tremendous way to develop confidence and improve fitness. In the last decade, Wheelpower has encouraged thousands of disabled people to take part in sporting activities on a weekly basis.

Overall, the event was a great success and we look forward to taking part again next year.
